Jumpstart is a nationwide non-profit organization dedicated to preparing disadvantaged children for kindergarten. Children in low-income areas start kindergarten 60% behind than children from more affluent areas. Jumpstart brings their curriculum to low-income preschools in order to help bridge this educational gap. The program is taught by volunteers (called Corps Members) who are recruited from local colleges, universities, and the community.
Jumpstart needed a redesigned website to educate users about their program and to drive users to volunteer, donate, and participate in events.
Process
Before starting to design, first I reviewed a comprehensive site audit performed by a third party. The site audit detailed problem points with Jumpstart’s current website’s structure, SEO, and content. Using the results from the site audit, I worked with Jumpstart to develop a new sitemap.
For this project, I led a team of designers to produce the layouts for the site. Together, we designed mockups for over 50 pages. I defined the design direction and layout of the redesigned site, met with the client weekly to discuss revisions, and created low-fidelity concepts for my design team to implement into a high-fidelity design.
Once the site design was approved, I created a style guide and asset package to hand off to development.
